By way of introduction, I am a Canadian Boomer living in Taiwan with a goal to promote this beautiful island as a viable location for Snowbirds to get away from the harsh Canadian winters.  This is my third winter in Taiwan and it’s time to share all of the wonderful sights and experiences throughout that time.  My blog is intended to show how easy it is to live amongst the friendly Taiwanese people and what to expect if you choose to give Taiwan a try. 

 I firmly believe that our generation is looking for more than rounds of golf in Florida or Arizona.  A recent article published by ‘booking.com’ says “Forget a restful retirement; next year an emerging cohort of baby boomers will defy their years and conventional expectations in favor of thrill seeking.  Nearly one quarter (23%) of this generation are interested in vacations that involve adventure (up from 10% in 2024) and 23% are eager to push beyond their established comfort zones, reconnecting with the reckless abandon of youth.”  While they are primarily referring to vacations, I suggest the same attitude and desire can be extended to Snowbirding.  Spending a winter in an Asian country without benefit of speaking the language is an adventure, and Taiwan fits the bill perfectly as it is safe, beautiful, and a relatively easy place to navigate day-to-day life while leaving enough adventure to create stories to take home.

The cost to get here may be higher than a quick flight south, but you will find your dollars go a long way and your total expense for the winter season will undoubtedly be less than the US dollar destinations.
